Child Protection
Building safe, loving environments for every child in our communities
PLK builds upon the strengths within a family and the community to help provide a safe and loving environment for their children. This is done by strengthening formal and informal child protection mechanisms to keep children safe from violence, abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
We also engage parents and caregivers to help them care for their children without violence.

Family and Community Strengthening
PLK builds upon the strengths within a family and the community to help provide a safe and loving environment for their children. We work with families to identify and build on their existing capacities to protect and nurture their children.
Community-based child protection committees are trained and supported to identify at-risk children, respond to cases of abuse, and refer children to appropriate services.

Formal and Informal Protection Mechanisms
We strengthen both formal and informal child protection mechanisms to keep children safe from violence, abuse, neglect, and exploitation. This includes working with schools, health facilities, and local authorities to create child-safe environments.
Our case management system ensures that children who have experienced abuse or neglect receive timely, coordinated support from multiple service providers.

Positive Parenting and Caregiver Support
We engage parents and caregivers to help them care for their children without violence. Through positive parenting workshops and support groups, caregivers learn alternative discipline strategies and how to create nurturing home environments.
Our caregiver support programs also address the underlying stressors — poverty, mental health, substance abuse — that can contribute to child maltreatment, providing holistic support to the whole family.
